Karen Shelley – the life story, so far…

EARLY DAYS

Karen discovered she could sing at any early age, when she was picked out as the regular soloist for her primary school choir. After attending art school, for several years Karen studied vocal technique with Arlene Randozzo of the Metropolitan Opera, New York, and also jazz singing at the Guildhall School of Music, UK.

GOING GIGGING

Karen has spent the last four years honing her vocal skills and building a successful career singing covers on the club circuit, including appearances on national television and working as a session singer with Rob Manzoli (Right Said Fred). She has also recorded three garage dance tracks as part of the duo Eskay & DJ Shy.

FINDING HER VOICE

Karen’s vision was always to be an artist in her own right and find her own voice and style. A revelation occurred just 2 years ago when Karen was given a guitar after a relationship break-up. Karen took to the guitar like a long lost friend and soon realised she could write moving and poignant songs as an emotional outlet for her feelings. It was immediately evident that the themes of her songs touched a chord with listeners everywhere: a unique sense of vulnerability and honesty is an integral part of her voice and seeps through all her songs.

Karen has become a prolific songwriter, having composed over 200 songs in the past 18 months alone.

11 of these songs appear on Karen’s first album, If Songs Could Speak, together with her debut single – a unique acoustic arrangement of Phil Collins'In the Air Tonight.
